NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Andela, the world's largest private marketplace for technical talent, today announced that the first 200 Andela technologists have completed a new training program on GitHub Copilot, the industry's leading AI code assistant, with 1,000 more expected this year and an additional 2,000 in 2026.
The initiative is the first major program from the newly launched Andela AI Academy, with the goal of shaping the next generation of AI-powered technologists and closing the global AI skills gap for Andela clients worldwide.
"This initiative ensures that both Andela and our clients remain competitive in an AI-driven future, while creating opportunities for technologists to advance their careers through cutting-edge skill development," said Carrol Chang, CEO of Andela, which has more than 170,000 technologists in its talent network spanning 179 countries. "The future of software development is here and we're helping shape it, one developer at a time."
Unlocking Potential, Driving Business Impact
The training—delivered at no cost to the technologists—aims to boost developer productivity 30% to 50% with a long-term target of 10X performance improvement. The eight week training covers everything from GitHub Copilot fundamentals to hands-on AI integration in real-world client projects. Participants master prompting, debugging, and ethical AI usage, while gaining practical experience across multiple programming languages. Andela also offers GitHub Copilot certification preparation and continuous mentorship.
All told, 92% of the 200 completed the training, underscoring Andela's strength in delivering successful training. Eighty six have, so far, also achieved GitHub Copilot certification free of charge thanks to our partnership with GitHub. Technologists from every corner of the world raised their hand to learn, including Nigeria, India, Brazil, Canada and the U.S. Even prior to the training, Andela's talent was embracing AI tools.
"GitHub has experienced the value of the Andela talent network firsthand," said Abbas Haider Ali, SVP, Customer Success at GitHub. "We've used Andela to source top-tier global technologists to optimize our internal support processes. We're proud to partner on this program to help developers—and the companies that hire them—benefit from the full potential of AI-powered coding."
AI Demand Soars, Andela Bridges the Gap
The GitHub Copilot training addresses a growing urgency for AI skills. Nearly 1 in 4 job postings in the U.S. now require AI capabilities but workers have yet to secure the needed skills given how fast AI continues to develop and change. By launching the AI Academy, Andela further invests in future-proofing its talent and helping companies thrive in the age of AI. All told, it has 170,000 people eligible to apply for the training.
To further extend AI skills, Andela is already sourcing applicants for its next AI Academy push—Mastery of Generative AI. The AI Academy training also follows Andela's recent partnership with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation to train 20,000 to 30,000 African technologists in Kubernetes to enable them to excel in jobs globally as cloud native development grows.
