Carrol Chang
CEO

Carrol Chang was appointed CEO of Andela in September 2024 and is committed to scaling the business while remaining true to its mission-driven approach of connecting brilliance with opportunity. She joined us from Uber, where she led efforts to improve work for nearly 7 million flexible workers around the world as the Global Head of Driver & Courier Operations.   

She has held positions with McKinsey Company, Portraits of Hope, and the administration of President Barack Obama. She is passionate about expanding opportunity in all forms to underrepresented populations and making commerce more generous and kind for all stakeholders.  She holds a BA from Harvard and both a JD and MBA from Northwestern University. 

Carrol resides in Washington, D.C., with her husband and three young children. In her spare time, she has a creative passion for crafting mouth-watering charcuterie boards and epic Halloween costumes for her family.

Kelly Wenzel

Kelly Wenzel is a dynamic, award-winning marketing executive with 30 years of experience, known for crafting go-to-market strategies that fuel scalable growth. As a six-time CMO, her career has spanned high-growth startups and challenger brands as well as scaled business units at Amazon.

One of Kelly's defining strengths is her proven track record with two-sided marketplaces; she set global, B2B2C go-to-market strategy for firms like Contently and Amazon Pay. Most recently she led B2B and developer marketing for Amazon Alexa. 

Beyond her impressive career achievements, Kelly is recognized for her transformational leadership style, characterized by a relentless growth mindset and a proven track record of building high-performing teams. She is a certified Conscious Leadership coach, a passionate advocate for women leaders, and deeply committed to mentorship. 

Kelly self-describes as a “drinker of wine, lover of life, believer in gratitude.” She resides in Florida with her husband and 14-year-old twins. 

Alvaro Oliveira

With more than 15 years of experience in the technology industry, Alvaro Oliveira has a passion for building and leading high-performing teams that deliver innovative solutions and exceptional talent experiences. As Chief Talent Officer and SVP of Engineering at Andela, his responsibilities span talent assessment, acquisition, matching, experience, and partnerships, ensuring Andela consistently delivers top-notch talent experiences. He leads the engineering team responsible for our world-class, platform-based marketplace, serving both technologists and clients. 

Previously, Alvaro was the VP of Talent Operations for Toptal; he has held various technical roles for companies such as Round Pegs, TechTeam Global, Kenos, The Bristol Group, and The Wornick Company.

São José dos Campos, Brazil is home to Alvaro and his family, where he fills his leisure time with Beach Tennis and playing with his young son.

Courtney Machi brings Andela’s vision of connecting brilliance with opportunity to life through our technology offerings, including Andela Talent Cloud, the proprietary AI-powered platform that streamlines the global hiring process, helping customers save time and money.

A seasoned leader with more than 15 years of experience, Courtney has held key product leadership roles at Toptal and Anaplan, where she played pivotal roles in product strategy through the hypergrowth of both companies and IPO of the latter. Her ability to build and scale high-performing teams, shape product direction and deliver value to customers has made her a leader in the space. She has spoken at numerous industry events on product and the global workforce and was named one of the Top 25 Software Executives of 2022 by The Software Report.

Before the arrival of her daughter, Courtney operated as a digital nomad, living and working in different countries around the world. She is passionate about remote work and scaling distributed teams — even from her new home base in south Florida.

Kate Holowink

Kate Holowink joined Andela in 2022 as the Chief of Staff to the CEO. Prior to Andela, she spent her career in financial institutions, most recently at Goldman Sachs as the Director of Staffing and Operations within CWM and previously at JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and Bridgewater Associates in various operational and strategy roles.

She graduated from Vanderbilt University summa cum laude in 2005. 

Kate lives in Southlake, Texas with her husband and two young children.

Lila Millsap is an influential leader noted for crafting transformative solutions that cultivate exceptional employee experiences and foster inclusive cultures across global remote teams. As the VP of People at Andela, Lila is actively creating a positive organizational culture that fosters growth, innovation, and high performance with a focus on sustainable results.  

Prior to her role at Andela, she served as VP of People at InVision, where she employed innovative approaches to the talent lifecycle. This, coupled with her adeptness in implementing HR as a product, contributed significantly to InVision's success. 

With a Master's degree in HR Management and a background in People Business Partnership, Lila brings a unique blend of creativity and strategic acumen to her leadership roles. Her passion for empowering teams to thrive in remote environments, coupled with her deep understanding of global talent dynamics, positions her as a trailblazer in the realm of remote culture building and people leadership. 

Lila is a California native where she lives with her husband and 17 year old step-daughter. When not deep in thought partnership you'll likely find her on a hiking trail or some other outdoor adventure. 

Our History

Andela has been connecting brilliance with opportunity throughout our history.

2014

Beginnings

Founded by Jeremy Johnson, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Nadayar Enegesi, Brice Nkengsa, Ian Carnevale, and Christina Sass; Andela launched its first recruitment cycle in Lagos, Nigeria, hiring its first cohort of six Nigerian software engineers after receiving 700 applications.

2015

Andela secures Series A funding

Andela secured $10 million in Series A funding led by Spark Capital, with participation from Seed investors, and opened operations in Nairobi, Kenya.

2016

First all-female cohort

Andela went through its Series B funding round, raising $24 million led by The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative; holds its first all-female cohort in Kenya.

2017

Andela secures Series C funding

Series C funding round brings total funding to over $80 million; Andela opens in our third African market: Kampala, Uganda; Andela and Google launch the Andela Learning Community; Andela hits 500 developers.

2018

First cohort completes four-year program

The first two sets of engineers complete the four-year program.

2019

Andela secures $100M Series D funding

$100M in Series D funding secured, led by Generation Investment Management and including Serena Williams’ investment platform, Serena Ventures, bringing the total venture funding to $180 million; Andela opens in Egypt.

2020

Andela goes remote

The entire Andela organization goes fully remote, permanently.

2021

Andela reaches unicorn status

Andela secures Unicorn status after announcing $200M in Series E funding, valuing the global engineering network at $1.5 billion.

2022

Brand evolution

Andela introduces its new brand.

2023

Andela launches Andela Talent Cloud

Andela acquires Casana, Codewars & Qualified.io and launches Andela Talent Cloud.

2024

A decade of impact: 10 years of connecting brilliance with opportunity
