At the very core of what Andela represents as an organization, is a culture of brilliance and excellence that is relevant to both current and future trends for advancing technological transformation and helping organizations achieve their business needs.
Our commitment to upholding these values has, over the years, necessitated the drive to cultivate these principles in the talent we work with. Andela technologists always have access to training programs that help them advance their skills and careers.
This year, Andela celebrated 10 years of Impact. As part of that celebration, we’re looking back on the training and scholarship programs the Andela Learning Community (ALC) has provided to African technologists over the past decade.
The React Program
Developed following research by Andela that showed JavaScript as an in-demand technology, both for learners and organizations, a 19-week React program was created in April 2023.
The React program was delivered by Andela in partnership with Meta as a sponsor and Pluralsight as the curriculum partner. React was an intensive training program designed to equip 3,000 learners from across Africa and Latin America with comprehensive knowledge and skills in React, a popular JavaScript library for building user interfaces.
Ticking all the boxes
The React program leveraged Pluralsight's extensive library of React courses and learning resources to train technologists on a comprehensive curriculum, covering topics such as React fundamentals, component-based architecture, state management (e.g., Redux, Context API),
routing (e.g., React Router), and data fetching (e.g., Axios, GraphQL). The program focused on these topics to equip the ALC developers with top 10 in-demand skills in 2023.
Mentorship and Promoting Peer Learning
With access to Andela mentors, who provided guidance, code reviews and answered their questions throughout the program, learners never had to solve problems alone. This personalized support enhanced the learning experience and helped learners overcome any challenges.
Within the ALC, there is a rich diversity of perspectives, expertise, and experiences that spark innovative ideas and create a vibrant learning community. The React program created a dedicated online platform to facilitate interaction and collaboration among learners, instructors, and mentors, allowing for engaging discussions, resource sharing, and an exchange of ideas among peers.
Show and Tell
Upon completion of the program, learners received a React Mastery Program certificate of completion, jointly issued by Andela and Meta, as recognition of their proficiency in React development.
After the program, two technologists landed new placements; one as a Tech Support with Swiftly and the other as a Database Engineer with RISA . Many other technologists shared their program success stories on social media, detailing how the course had positively impacted their careers, and how they planned to apply the knowledge they gained.
Sustained Impact
Technology plays a huge role in shaping businesses, and in an industry that is highly competitive and constantly evolving, technologists must continue to stay relevant and meet the demands of their customers and the industry.
Many learners from the React program are still reaping the benefits of the program, achieving continuous success in their careers; so, there’s no doubt that access to learning and training opportunities can pre-determine future success.
Members of the ALC have free access to dozens of technical development programs to help them upskill or reskill and prepare them for world-class opportunities.
Organizations that partner with Andela to source global talent can tap into a community of brilliant and skilled technologists to help them meet their business needs.
