BBC, in its mission to create a single digital asset management system, partnered with Andela to harness top-tier engineering talent for building a platform that would centralize and enhance its image repository. This collaboration led to a system designed to replace the outdated Jarvis and Elvis systems, integrating technologies like Scala, Java, AWS, and React.
Andela’s team played a crucial role in architecting and implementing solutions that streamlined image aggregation, ensured real-time image availability with correct metadata, and improved usage rights management.
The result is a robust platform that supports nearly 10,000 users and manages about 2.5 million images, significantly reducing BBC’s operational complexities and costs related to image rights. This new system increased the efficiency for media asset usage and bolstered compliance and auditing capabilities.
